Interpol - Alternate Review, Leeds o2 Academy, 22 March 2011

One thing with Interpol – from the spoils of Colin Meloy’s inter-song banter, Paul Banks had none. Barely saying a word, Interpol successfully channelled their idols Joy Division, although no doubt Hooky would have said more.

Singing, not talking.

On the plus side, they played ‘Specialist’ the only song that was introduced as ‘rarely heard live’ echoing both the song and Paul’s voice. Racing through a back catalogue of hits from Rosemary to C’mere, it was a decent enough gig and well worth checking out.

Sadly, it was the weakest of the three gigs in Leeds, proving there is too much of a good thing when it comes to live music. Expectations can easily soar, sometimes a little of what you fancy goes a long way.
