Saint Saviour, The Duchess, 1 November 2012
The only reason I'm here is Sound It Out Records, a highly-recommended documentary that followed Teesside's last independent record shop in Stockton-on-Tees. One of the featured acts was none other than Saint Saviour, which is how I found myself welded to the floor of the Duchess, who have taken Ziggy's crown of York's 'Club's Stickiest Floor'.
Not sure of what to expect, Saint Saviour bounces onstage and starts the gig with an understated startling song showcasing her exceptional voice. This is followed by euphoric pop songs - it's hard to really it do it justice as I'm not one for the 'Chillout' pop sessions but this is something far better when played live.

Turning the Duchess into a dancehall. |
With her amazing voice that belies her tiny frame, she captivates the crowd and seems to be enjoying the music as much as ourselves, every beat is met is with triumphant dancing as she loses herself and us in the sounds.
Ending on a cover of 'Happy House', still playing in my head now, Saint Saviour brings the night to a close on a sea of dance-infused gorgeous pop - the crowd going from stoic statues at the beginning of the set to out and out head-bobbing, which as anyone knows at York gigs, is the closest thing to a riot.
Saint Saviour, York salutes you. Now to rescue my boots...
